How To Make A Pet First Aid Kit

We all are keeping a first-aid box in case of an emergency? Don’t we? You never know what will happen to you or me on the next minute. So Its better get to be prepared. Just like we have a first-aid kit, you should consider having a pet first-aid kit for your lovely companion too.

It’s always good to keep your pet first aid kit close to you. You can keep it in your backpack or maybe in your dog’s backpack, or your shoulder bag. That way, you can carry those with you when you are camping, taking road trips, or hiking with your dog. It should be in a place where easy to pick up so you can use it quickly in an emergency case.

I agree with you; it is always best to take your dog to the veterinarian if you can. But you may face situations where you cant get to vet suddenly, so in that case, at least you can do your best to take good care until you get a chance to make it to a vet. So on that kind of situations, you will be thankful for having the first-aid kit with you Here I will explain to you what kind of essential items you should keep in your dog’s first aid kit.

1. Vaccination & Medical Records And Emergency Phone Numbers

It is always a good idea to take your dog’s vaccine logs, and any other treatment reports with you when you are taking your pet outside. Because in case of an emergency, if you were able to find a veterinarian on the way, they will love to see the dog’s medical history. So they will be able to provide better care. Not only that, in case if you lose your mobile phone, if you have written down all the essential contact numbers you will be able to contact them without searching everywhere.

If you ever got to a situation where you don’t have electricity, phone service, or the internet? On a situation like that, It is wiser to keep a hard copy of all of your dog’s paperwork within your first-aid kit. So your pet first aid kit has not only medicine but also the relevant paperwork too. If you are going out of the town by leaving your pup with a dog sitter, make sure that they know where to find those documents in case of an emergency.

2. Hydrogen Peroxide

People think that hydrogen peroxide is meant to be used for cleaning minor injuries. But it’s not. If your dog ate something toxic, you could use this to trigger vomiting. And if you are doing that, please be familiar with the proper instructions on how to do that.

I use Solimo Hydrogen Peroxide personally and keep an extra bottle for my dog’s need. You can check it out too.

3. Antibiotic Ointment

If you happen to walk outside regularly with your dog, you should keep this with you in case if a small cut or scratch happens to your pup. These types of antibiotic ointments will help to relieve the pain, prevent any infection, and act as a barrier for the bacteria & germs. We all know that even small cuts or injuries may lead to significant health issues if they become worse.

There are many ointments brands available on the market. But I will list down a few ointments that used by majority of pet owners. These are trustworthy products; you can try these.

Scissors will help you to cut a piece of cloth or cut bandages. If you can add 5 or 6 sets of rubber gloves to your kit too. You can use them when you are dealing with blood or cleaning dogs poop.

If your dog decides to pee in the back seat of your car, a towel or wipes will help you to clean the mess. Also, you can use wipes to clean the pet’s muddy paws before it gets inside to the car. As you can see, you should clean your dog as well as the immediate environment, because It will help you to prevent any infections that could make your dog sick.

Then you will get the ability to access the injured area without being bitten or scratching. Not only that, a towel or blanket will provide a soft surface for you to rest your dog for further examines. Because in some places grounds are hot, too hard, or muddy or even have sharp rocks which may harm your dog’s skin.

7. Water Bottles & Collapsible Water Bowls

Proper hydration is vital for anybody health. So be sure always to offer sufficient water amount for your dog. When you are choosing a collapsible and portable water bowl, always stick with bowels, which are made by using silicons instead of plastics. Always carry an extra water bottle for your dog only. Because if you use to give water from your water bottle once you drank all the water, there may not be enough water for your dog. So this item must include in your pet first aid kit.

These medicines may include antacids, approved drugs for stomach issues, or flea meds, or maybe accepted sedatives. But keep in mind that always check for the expiry dates of the medicines.

10. Flashlight

A flashlight is another useful item that you should keep in your first aid kit. If the dog gets injured, you can use this to get a more clear view with the help of light. If you happen to go outside in the dark, it will be more difficult to see if you do not have any light source. Since you are taking a light source with you taking extra batteries are important too.
